Cartilage Restoration Center

You've been living with the pain for years. In fact, you can't remember a time when your knee didn't throb or swell every time you took a flight of stairs, or when a short jog to the bus stop didn't feel like a half-marathon. Simple activities have become difficult: a walk around the mall, a game of catch with your kid, getting in and out of the car. Traditional surgery offers limited and short-lived relief. Doctors say you'll eventually need a total knee replacement. Meanwhile you wake up every morning with pain, and take the pain to bed with you at night.

Each year, more than 2 million Americans injure the cartilage in their knees. Whatever the cause, the result is the same: pain that makes it difficult or impossible for you to lead the active lifestyle you enjoy. Many of these injuries happen to people considered too young to undergo artificial knee replacement surgery. Fortunately, there are new treatment options - many of them available only in the last five years.

Orthopedic surgeons at Rush have developed the Cartilage Restoration Center (CRC) to offer a full range of contemporary treatment options for knee pain, including the latest minimally invasive procedures. Many of these surgeries are performed arthroscopically through small incisions and usually require no more than an overnight hospital stay. In some cases, we can prevent the onset or progression of arthritis, using innovative methods for restoring damaged cartilage available at only a handful of medical centers in the country.
